Near the south coast and when planted in among granite rocks, it has been know to perform as stunted, spreading shrub. Its trunks are short, stout and often crooked, with the rough grey bark characteristic of Banksia. The leaves are large, long and consist of a series of triangular lobes, new growth is a pale lime green turning darker with age making this banksia very attractive. Banksias are a very popular garden plants in Australia because of their large, showy flower heads, and the large amounts of nectar they produce, attracting many birds to the garden. They may need extra water during dry spells until established. When fertilising, only use a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertilizer. Will respond well to a little pruning to keep shape.
