Common Name:  Banksia

Best Position:  Full sun, well drained sandy soil.

Plant Description:  An Australian Native, the foliage is really tight knit and the colour is a little more lime green than most ericifolia forms, the branches are spaced out more than other ericifolias making the whole shrub not very dense. Banksias are a very popular garden plants in Australia because of their large, showy flower heads, and the large amounts of nectar they produce, attract birds to the garden. They may need extra water during dry spells until established. When fertilising, only use a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertilizer. Will respond well to a little pruning to keep shape. Lots of cylindrical spikes which are bronze to a terracotta-red colour.

Best Uses:  Native garden designs, great for coastal plantings and the flowers are ideal for floral arrangements.
