What does waterwise mean?

The term 'waterwise' is often misunderstood by gardeners. A waterwise plant is one that requires regular water while being established. However, once established it will need less water than most traditional plants but will not necessarily withstand periods of drought. In other words, it still needs water on a regular basis.

A drought resistant plant will tolerate periods with little or no water but only once it is established. All new plants require water until they have an established root system. Remember that your plants will thrive with a little TLC when they are young and with care they will grow into healthy, mature plants.
